What information we collect
When you sign up for an account on Writo, we collect your username, email address, and the display name you choose. When you submit a book to the catalogue, we store the book details, cover image, and related metadata (ISBN, publisher, page count, etc.). When you use the contributor-claim feature, we record your claim and verification note. We also store standard technical data like IP address and user agent for security and abuse-prevention purposes.
How we use your information
We use your information to operate the site (displaying your books, processing contributor claims, sending the newsletter if you opt in), to prevent abuse, and to improve the service. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Cookies
Writo uses cookies to keep you logged in and to remember your preferences. By using the site you consent to these cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser, but parts of the site may not work correctly if you do.
Third-party services
Writo uses a small number of third-party services to operate:
- Amazon — book buy links on book pages use Amazon’s affiliate links. Amazon may set cookies for affiliate tracking.
- Google Books and Open Library — when you import a book by ISBN, we look up the metadata from these public catalog APIs.
- Google Fonts — for the typography on the site.
Your rights
You can view, edit, or delete your account at any time. To request full deletion of your account and associated data, email us at the address below. If you have signed up for the newsletter, you can unsubscribe using the link in any newsletter email.
Children’s privacy
Writo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the “last updated” date at the top. For significant changes, we may also notify users by email.
